OMEGA Speedmaster Anniversary Series “First OMEGA in Space” Watch 310.30.40.50.06.001
As many of us know and have seen advertised countless times, the Speedmaster watch became the first OMEGA in space while worn by astronaut Walter Schirra. This was during his groundbreaking Sigma 7 mission on October 3rd, 1962. The pivotal 9-hour, 13-minute, and 11-second flight saw Schirra orbit Earth six times, firmly establishing the Speedmaster as an essential piece of space equipment. This historic mission marked the beginning of OMEGA’s legendary association with space exploration.
62 years later, OMEGA have introduced this re-edition. No longer made from Hesalite but rather a sapphire crystal with the same domed shape. Measuring at a comfortable 39.70 mm and featuring a sun-brushed grey/blue dial, this modern retro piece also includes the vintage OMEGA logo. One of the most noticeable changes is the updated polished/brushed steel tapered bracelet with the OMEGA comfort release adjustment system. There are leather strap options but personally the bracelet is the one for me. Again, this would not be an OMEGA timepiece without a commemorative caseback. Featuring the mission date, the Seahorse motif and of course “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE”. Check out the video below and visit the website for more information .
Audemars Piquet Royal Oak Concept Watch 26650FO.OO.D353CA.01
This highly complicated timepiece introduces a patented Chroma Forged Technology (CFT) carbon case, featuring touches of blue that glow in the dark, complemented by a black ceramic bezel. Created in Audemars Piguet’s R&D workshops, CFT offers a striking aesthetic with subtle colours while providing exceptional resistance to humidity, heat, and shocks. The openworked dial and interchangeable rubber strap combine black and blue for a high-tech, two-tone design. Key elements include black counters with a blue external zone, white gold luminescent hour markers and hands, a titanium chronograph, and split-second hands. The watch boasts a 43 mm case, 17.5 mm thickness, and 50m water resistance. Priced at US$206,800 (approx. £158,000).
As Lucas Raggi, the Director of AP’s R&D, explains; “Audemars Piguet was the first brand to introduce forged carbon to watchmaking in 2007. After five years of research and development, we are proud to present a brand-new generation of forged carbon, which can be coloured while retaining its excellent mechanical properties”. There is a lot to like about this watch visually and from an engineering standpoint but as with most timepieces from Audemars Piguet, the price tag is a tall ask for most collectors. Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon Watch Q392845J
The Reverso Tribute Duoface Tourbillon showcases the exquisite artistry of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Grandes Complications workshop, featuring a flying tourbillon with no top bridge and a stunning S-shaped balance spring. The tourbillon, made of 62 components and weighing less than 0.5 grams, was hand-assembled to perfection. The steel-cased timepiece is powered by the in-house calibre 847, a marvel at just 3.9 mm thick, embodying the Duoface concept. On the front, the sunrayed grey dial presents a refined aesthetic, while the reverse side, meticulously crafted by the Atelier des Métiers Rares™, features intricate guilloché work executed by hand on a century-old lathe. The artisan carefully engraves each of the 232 grooves six times, creating a pattern representing 1,392 gestures.
One of the primary challenges JLC’s watchmakers faced was maintaining the thinness of the model, requiring a complete reimagining of the tourbillon mechanism. To reduce height, the upper bridge was removed, allowing an unobstructed view of the regulating organ, and replaced by a peripheral ball-bearing system that supports the outer tourbillon cage. Though price is available at request, it is anticipated to be over £100k. Explore more at Jaegar-LeCoultre.
