1932 Los Angeles Olympics: A Historic Beginning

Omega’s journey as the Official Timekeeper of the Olympic Games began in 1932 in Los Angeles. Armed with 30 high-precision stopwatches, Omega’s lone watchmaker travelled from Bienne to ensure accurate timing to the nearest 1/10th of a second, setting a new standard in sports measurement.

1948 London Olympics: Pioneering Electronic Era

Omega ushered in the “electronic era” of sports timekeeping at the 1948 London Olympics. With groundbreaking technologies such as the first photofinish camera and the first Photoelectric Cell, they revolutionised the accuracy and efficiency of timing events.

1952 Helsinki Olympics: Recognized for Exceptional Services

In appreciation of Omega’s 20 years of service to the Olympics, the brand was awarded the IOC Cross of Merit. Taking place at the Helsinki Olympics in 1952, acknowledging its exceptional contributions to the world of sport.

1956 Melbourne Olympics: Semiautomatic Swimming Timer

Omega introduced the Swim Eight-O-Matic at the Melbourne Olympics in 1956. This changed swimming timekeeping with the world’s first semiautomatic swimming timer, improving accuracy and fairness in the sport.

1964 Innsbruck Olympics: Introduction of Omegascope

Omega introduced the Omegascope technology at the Innsbruck Olympics in 1964. Providing real-time sports reporting by superimposing live times of athletes on the bottom of the screen. This massively enhanced the viewing experience for spectators.
