The OMEGA Speedmaster “First OMEGA in Space” 39.7mm (Ref. 310.30.40.50.06.001) honours astronaut Walter Schirra’s personal Speedmaster CK 2998 that became the first OMEGA worn in space on October 3rd, 1962 during the Sigma 7 mission of the Mercury programme. This tribute captures the same second generation Speedmaster style in modern form through grey-blue CVD coated dial replicating the tone of 1960s CK 2998 watches whilst incorporating contemporary Master Chronometer technology.

At 39.7mm with polished and brushed stainless steel construction, this provides authentic vintage proportions through “flat links” bracelet with OMEGA’s patented comfort release adjustment system whilst the black aluminium bezel ring features legendary tachymeter scale with emblematic “Dot Over Ninety”. The hesalite-like form sapphire crystal maintains authentic appearance whilst providing modern durability.

The Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 represents the most up-to-date version of the Calibre 321 worn by astronauts in space, delivering 50-hour power reserve with 15,000 gauss magnetic resistance through METAS certification. The free-sprung balance with silicon balance spring enhances accuracy whilst the rhodium-plated finish with straight Geneva waves demonstrates exceptional craftsmanship.

The vintage OMEGA logo appears on dial and crown whilst the caseback features famous Seahorse medallion with engravings “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”. The Alpha hands and indexes filled with vintage Super-LumiNova create authentic period character.

This Speedmaster “First OMEGA in Space” suits space enthusiasts and collectors seeking authentic 1962 space heritage with proven Master Chronometer technology and faithful vintage recreation. The Walter Schirra connection and Mercury programme significance provide genuine space exploration credentials whilst the modern movement and vintage aesthetics ensure reliable daily wear that honours OMEGA’s pioneering space exploration legacy.
